Honoring ‘Hillbilly Division’ 1928 Music Sessions

Did you know that 312 E Main St. was one of the buildings tied to the ‘Hillbilly Division’ Sessions? Nearly 100 years ago Appalachian Musicians were gathering right here in downtown Johnson City.  As I have been digging into the history of our building, I’ve become fascinated by Johnson City’s connections to Columbia Records’ famous ‘Hillbilly Division’ recording sessions of 1928-1929.

As we approach the 98th anniversary of those sessions, we are opening our doors October 13-17 to welcome local Appalachian storytellers, old-time bluegrass, folk, and traditional musicians to have a space to collaborate and jam with fellow Appalachian Artists.

No scheduled performances.  No stage. No pressure.  No paid gig.  Just musicians, music lovers, and neighbors coming together as they did almost 100 years ago to share their sound.
